The content based material that I have designed is for grade III. The topic is introducing ‘Identifying Paragraphs form a Simple Text’ from English.

The lesson objectives are by the end of the lesson, a child will be able to identify the parts of a paragraph: topic sentence, supporting sentence, and concluding sentence correctly after the lesson, write a paragraph containing a topic sentence, supporting sentence, and a concluding sentence in their own words after the lesson.

The main tool that I have used to develop this material is Camtasia. It is a video editing software program which allows us to create videos quickly and efficiently. For the beginners like me, this has been a very good and at the same time easy to use unlike other programs.

Creation of the Material

First of all I have prepared a PowerPoint presentation about Identifying Paragraphs from a Simple Text and then only I recorded the screen using Camtasia Studio 8. I have designed my presentations in a white background inserted necessary information related to the topic and to the level of the students’ understanding. I have even used the ‘burger idea’ to let them understand more with clear picture. As in this particular idea of delivering the concepts, I have used the features of Camtasia Studio such as fading out, zoom-n-pan, making blur, giving focus, transition, so that students can give a focus to one idea or the words at a time and thereby get a clear understanding of what each components mean. I have also supported the concepts using the real life examples to further add on their understanding. After that, I saved the video from produce and share option by selecting the MP4 with video player (up to 720p) because it gave the best version of graphic compared to other options

When should the material be used?

The materials can be used during lesson introduction and lesson development. The video can aid in information input under lesson development in teaching the concepts to students because all the information are clearly explained with voice narration along with the video. The teacher can use it to introduce the concepts of identifying paragraph from a simple text using the idea of a burger shown in a video. Even in the lesson development, using this video, the teacher can pause for a while if children have a doubt on any part and listen to the voice narration.

Activity instructions:

1)            The activity will be done individually.

2)            The teacher will read a passage.

3)            Listen to the passage carefully.

4)            Identify topic sentence, supporting sentence, and a concluding sentence in a paragraph.

5)            After you are done identifying, note them down in your notebook.

6)            For this activity, students will be provide ten minutes to complete the task.

Creation of the material

The content-based material that I have designed is mainly for the purpose to learn “Communication” for grade V. I have designed this material by using Microsoft PowerPoint. We can use this similar kind of content-based material even in other subjects as well or in other words this is known as KWL chart in common. I have used shapes to draw the snowman and animations to make it more interesting.

When should the material be used?

This content-based material can be used to introduce the lesson and it can also be used in the conclusion or closing session of the learning. We can let children make a guess about the first two statements and let them do the final one after having learned the topic.

Activity

Instruction: For the activity, students will be grouped into four with 4-5 members each. After they are grouped, they will be allowed to share their own understanding on each statement and write accordingly. Finally, they will have to present their writings in a group using the materials provided to each group.
